Stingray Leather Tannery

Stingray Leather Tannery

Stingray Skin Tanning Process is an activity to convert raw skin into cooked skin with a chemical process, namely by removing non-collagenous substances contained in the skin. leather and enter certain tanning substances to change its former nature raw into Tanned Skin. The schematic stages of the process are as follows:

  • 1.Disposal of meat and bones
This process aims to clean the remains of meat and bones from the skin from the body of the animal or fish, so that bacteria do not grow in the preservation process.

  • 2. Preservation
Preservation aims to preserve certain leather, so that the skin can be taken according to the quantity of the tanning machine used.

  • 3. Soaking
Soaking aims to restore the water content in the skin so that the skin condition is fresh again like when it was released from the equipment / fish
     How to :
     300 % Water
     0,5% Surfacktan 30’
 Check the water content in the skin, dirt and skin slack

  • 4.Limming
Liming aims to flatten/swell the skin so that the skin components in the form of globular protein, fat, and epidermis can be broken/separated from the protein fibrils, which will only be used for these fibrils.
     How to :
     300% Water
 3% lime (dissolve with hot water) 10'
     3% SN 10'
 Stir for 60 ', soak 1 night, stir tomorrow 60', brush dirt and veins

  • 5.Delimming
Lime disposal aims to remove the remaining lime used in the liming process so that the pH becomes neutral again.
     How to :
     200% Water
     2% ZA 60’
 Check for skin weakness, white skin color is not transparent and check PP indicator is colorless

  • 6.Protein Disposal / Bating Agent
Protein disposal aims to remove proteins contained in the skin that are not used in tanning.
     How to :
     200% Water
     1% Bating Agent (Oropon) 60’
 Check with the tumb test method, by pressing using the thumb / fingernails the skin feels empty, the skin is limp, there is no washing pressure

  • 7. Fat and fiber removal / Degreasing
Fat removal aims to remove natural fat that smells fishy/unpleasant, and removes unused coarse fibers
     How to :
     200% Water
     1% Degreasing agent
 The skin is weak and has a slightly fishy smell because of the washed fat

  • 8.Acidfication / pickling
Acidfication aims to preserve the skin or to prepare the skin's pH in the next process
     How to :
     150% Water
     15% Salt 7-10 0Be
     1.5% Formic acid (1:10)
     1% Sulfuric Acid (1:10) 3x@ 10’
 Check pH 3, Check the yellow BCG indicator

  • 9.Tanning
Tanning aims to coat leather fibers that were previously unstable into stable fibers using certain tanning materials.
     How to :
     +2% PF 30’
     + 6 %Cromosal B 60’
 Check for translucency (the entire cross section of the skin is flat green)
 do not waste fluids, continue with the basification process

  • 10.Basification
Basification aims to enlarge the molecules of the tanning material, so that the tanning material can protect the leather fiber perfectly
     How to :
     +0,75% Baking soda (1:10) 3x @ 10’
 Check pH 3.8-4, BCG indicator is yellow
     Stir 120 ', soak 1 night
 The next day stir 60 ', discard the liquid

  • 11. Ripening / Aging
Aging aims to form a covalent bond between the Chemical tanner and the tanned leather
     How to :
 Leave the skin for 1 night (cover with a plastic bag)

  • 12.Netralising / Netralization
Neutralization aims to neutralize / restore skin condition at pH 7
     How to :
     200 Water
     1% Baking Soda (1:10) 3x @10 minutes, stir 30'
 Cek ph 6-7, BCG indicator is blue

  • 13.Retanning
Retanning aims to perfect the rudimentary tanning and obtain the desired skin properties (solid, hard, flexible, etc.)
     How to :
     200% Water
     1% Aukceleris syntan 10’
     3% Replaisiment syntan 60’
 Check the condition of the skin until it is as we want

  • 14.Oiling / Fatliquoring
Fatliquoring aims to minimize lubrication/friction between the skin fibers, so the skin will be more flexible/limp
     How to :
     100% Warm water 50 c
     4% Fish oil
     2% Paste oil
     1% white oil
     0,3% emulsifier
 Dissolve the above oil first with hot water 50 c, mix with skin stir 60 ' Do not throw away the liquid, continue with staining.

  • 15.Coloring / Dyeing
Dyeing Coloring aims to give the skin color according to what we want (red, yellow, green, etc.)
     How to :
     + 3% dyestuff 30’
     Check color evenness
 Do not discard fluid, continue with fixation

  • 16.Fastening / Fixati
Fixation/binding aims to bind the oil/color molecule with the leather fiber so that the oil/color does not fade easily
     How to :
     +0,75% Formic Acid (1:10) 3x@ 10’
 Wash thoroughly until the color does not fade
     +0,01% anti fungal 10’
     Drain fluids

  • 17.Togling / Stretching / Drying
Togling /Stretching aims to dry the skin and obtain an even nature so as to provide better quality
     How to:
 With a special tool Togling or nail the edges of the leather on a flat / flat board, dry with the wind

  • 18.Weakening / Stacking
Weakening aims to open the fiber by mechanical treatment, so that maximum flexibility is obtained.
     How to:
 Relax the skin by pulling with a flat object so that the fibers in the skin can be separated / opened properly.
